Women Take Action:
Using the Insights of Feminism to
Change the World
War, global violence, environmental degradation, social injustice... these are hard times for women, children, and all who hold compassionate and caring values. Nurturing and many other qualities and activities associated with women are devalued, while force and violence are held up as models of strength. But women represent a different vision of strength. Women-initiated and women-led actions have a special energy and power. That power comes not from excluding men--we welcome men as participants--but because of the joy and visionary potential that arise when women work together to fiercely defend the values of life. In this talk, Starhawk speaks from her experiences as an organizer with Code Pink: Unreasonable Women for Peace; her work with Jewish and Palestinian women in the West Bank and Gaza; and her many years as a leading innovator in the Goddess revival and eco-feminist movements. How can the insights of feminism help us out of the mess we're in today?
Starhawk is one of the most respected voices in modern earth-based spirituality. She is also well-known as a global justice activist and organizer, whose work and writings have inspired many to action. She is the author or coauthor of ten books, including The Spiral Dance: A Rebirth of the Ancient Religion of the Great Goddess, long considered the essential text for the Neo-Pagan movement, and the now-classic ecotopian novel The Fifth Sacred Thing. Starhawk's newest book is The Earth Path: Grounding Your Spirit in the Rhythms of Nature.
