Through storytelling, "heart-brain-storming," and embodiment and group exercises we will open the door to the possible. We will see how we can separate from our fantasies of who we think we have to be to become effective and get grounded in starting where we are. Through Social Artistry embodiment exercises we will experience a sensory/kinesthetic anchor in the step-by-step process so that we can begin to claim our own energetic and organic avenue to action. $3 material fee paid to presenters.

In 2006 Richard Berger received a Wisdom University "Ordinary People - Extraordinary Outcomes Award" for single-handedly mobilizing several organizations and hundreds of individuals to send 150,000 survival blankets to Pakistan after the earthquake. Transforming Enemy Images

Open to men and women

Empathic listening is one of the most powerful skills of social action. Martin Luther King, Jr. commented, "You can have no influence over those for whom you have underlying contempt." In this workshop you will learn tools to connect to the humanity and the true needs underlying someone's unskillful actions or words. When people can be understood, without the fear of moral judgment, domination or blame, it is much easier to build trust and cooperation. Also, in times of overwhelm, despair or tiredness, empathic listening is also used to regain clarity, and restore connection and hope, especially during difficult times.

Janice Eng has taught Nonviolent Communication in Washington State Prisons since 1999 through the Freedom Project, an organization she helped found, which is committed to transforming prisoners into peacemakers and safety in the community. She also organizes community events welcoming people back into the community from prison. She is on the 2008 Asian Pacific Islander Leadership Foundation Team.
