Naomi Tutu
Healing Ourselves, Our Relationships, Our World

Workshop for women only

Naomi Tutu

As we look around our world we see brokenness in so many places and people. If we are honest with ourselves we have to admit that the brokenness starts so often within ourselves. What happened to our dreams, to the great things we were going to do in the world? What happened to the wonderful people we were going to be; the most devoted friend, the most supportive spouse, the most loving parent, the most serene person? The path and dreams we laid out for ourselves are rarely the reality of our lives today. We each have faced challenges and experienced brokenness and broken relationships.

Reconciliation and healing moves us ever closer to the people we were created and intended to be. This workshop focuses on reconciliation and healing at three levels. As we begin to look at how we might reconcile a wounded world we must start with ourselves, so the first level is the personal. When and where did I lose my trust and love of myself, how do I reconcile and come to love and value myself. The second level looks at our relationships with those closest to us; our family and friends. Those closest us to us are also the ones most likely to hurt and be hurt by us. How can we start rebuilding and healing wounded and broken relationships? Finally, we move to the larger world, the them and us. Who is our other and how did we come to see them as such. How can we move to accepting and celebrating our common humanity along with our differences?

This workshop uses meditation, readings, activities and conversations.

Naomi Tutu was led to become an activist for human rights through the challenges of growing black and female in apartheid South Africa. Those experiences taught how much we all lose when any of us is judged purely on physical attributes. In her speeches she blends the passion for human dignity with humor and personal stories.

Ms Tutu is the third child Archbishop Desmond and Nomalizo Leah Tutu. She was born in South Africa and has also lived in Lesotho, the United Kingdom and the United States. She was educated in Swaziland, the US and England, and has divide her adult life between South Africa and the US. Growing up the 'daughter of …' has offered Naomi Tutu many opportunities and challenges in her life. Most important of these has been the challenge to find her own place in the world. She has taken up the challenge and channeled the opportunities that she has been given to raise her voice as a champion for the dignity of all.

Her professional experience ranges from being a development consultant in West Africa, to being program coordinator for programs on Race and Gender and Gender-based Violence in Education at the African Gender Institute at the University of Cape Town. In addition Ms. Tutu has taught at the Universities of Hartford and Connecticut and Brevard College in North Carolina.

Ms. Tutu is a sought after speaker to groups as varied as business associations, professional conferences, elected officials and church and civic organizations. Ms. Tutu has also led Truth and Reconciliation Workshops for groups dealing with different types of conflict. Together with Rose Bator she is writing a book provisionally titled I Don't Think of You as Black: Honest Conversations on Race and Racism.

In addition to speaking, Ms Tutu is a consultant to two organizations, the Spiritual Alliance to Stop Intimate Violence (SAIV), founded by renowned author Riane Eisler and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Betty Williams, and the Foundation for Hospices in Sub-Saharan Africa (FHSSA). Ms Tutu is a single mother of three and currently lives in Nashville, TN.

In this magickal workshop we will create sacred space, raise the energy with circle dance and song, open our throat chakra and find our voice. We will air our fears to transform them into the courage we need to stand in and speak our truth.

WOW Conference Art Show Curators

For 20 years WOW celebrates its community, women from every background, and every spiritual path. In each woman there is a creative part, the aspect that allows each and every one of us to form support, and bring people together. To form a family, raise the younger generation and teach that generation to learn the wisdom and spirituality from past and present generations. Creativity is an important aspect of our being. We use in almost in every part of our lives.

For many of us, when it comes to our spiritual path, a calling is leading our journey. For some of us art is our calling. Art reflects our community and provides a place for connection, inspiration, and a spiritual existence.

In our event of Artists Celebration we are going to celebrate those of us that were blessed with that gift making art, of following their call and make it happen for all of us in our community. I want to invite you personally, to take part in acknowledging and support the artistic part of our community by joining our celebration of artists and their art.

Come celebrate with us, the creativity of our radiate, divine, feminine artists. Meet with them and talk about their art and art process, their passion and how it affects their spirituality. Enjoy the magic of creativity, some refreshment and a nice conversation. Most important, have a good time.
