Janice Eng1:00-3:00 PM - “Nonviolent Communication - The Peaceful Way”
with Janice Eng

Nonviolent Communication, developed by Marshall Rosenberg, PhD, is a way of thinking and speaking that helps us more easily connect to ourselves and to each other, whether it is to express appreciation or if we are feeling hurt, angry or afraid. Peace begins with ourselves. Learn how you can communicate with others that will create a peaceful environment and promotes peace to everyone you are connected to.

You will learn to express with clarity what you want in a way more likely to inspire the natural compassion within one another that loves to contribute. You will also learn to transform perceived judgment, blame, rejection or criticism into connection and understanding, and hear what the other person is really wanting and saying.

Janice has been facilitating Nonviolent Communication workshops for seven years in Washington prisons through the Freedom Project.

4:00-6:00 - Peace in Action!
with Mary Ella Keblusek

Mary Ella is a volunteer for the Niger Delta Professionals for Development (NIDPRODEV), a non-profit organization/NGO focused on communal and inter-tribal conflicts in the oil-rich Niger Delta region of Nigeria. They are working with the oil companies and the people of the Niger Delta to reduce pollution and improve their lives. She will share her story and how she got involved with this peace work, and together we will do exercises for you to discover your passion towards peace and how you can put your dreams and intentions into action.

Mary Ella was a board member of Women of Wisdom and was a co-founder of the Sacred Fire Choir. As Associate Director of the Giraffe Heroes Project, a nonprofit organization on Whidbey Island, she encourages others to fight fear and apathy by ‘sticking their necks out’ for the common good. She was inspired to become the Nigeria Project Director for Global Citizen Journey’s November 2005 delegation.
