Calling the Four Great Powers:
A Journey into the Realm of the Spirit World

We will travel around the Native American medicine wheel in search of our personal and collective visions. We will emphasize on "the call of our spirit caretakers and guides." we are not alone ! We are all part of a magnificent web of energies woven as we travel. We are connected and when we follow what are heart truly wants us to do we become the manifestation of spirit.

According to a Hopi legend, the heart is a vibrating organ, pulsing with the vibration of life itself. In his heart man/woman felt the good of life, its sincere purpose. He/She was of One Heart, but there those who permitted negative feelings to enter. They were said to be of two hearts. They were confused and felt lost.

The belly or Solar plexus is the throne of the creator. From it He/She directs all the functions of man/woman. From that power place new designs of energy are created and are woven into the fabric of the new self and emerging mythology.

In this workshop we will realign our bodies to the body of the earth. We will call the spirits to help find our way into the "One Heart" and to guide us into the manifestation of its sincere purpose. Bring a journal and pen. WOW will provide art supplies.

Integrating the Soul and Body through Dance and Qigong

The soul is here for its own joy. ~ Rumi

Through dance and qigong, we begin opening and listening to our bodies, the innate wisdom and truth that is, has always been, and will continue to be with us throughout our lives. If we relax our minds, our bodies will move, integrate, heal and speak to us through motion. Our bodies know how to be whole, how to align with our soul, our life purpose, and how to let our Joy shine. We just need to come home, listen, and let our bodies breathe us and be breathed, dance us and be danced by Spirit. This workshop will combine free-form dance, qigong practices to ground and open our bodies physically and energetically, and a partnered dance and witnessing exercise to integrate our bodies’ wisdom with the Shamanic soul work resulting in an embodied understanding and intention that we will ground into the Earth through our own foot prayers.

Karen Fletcher, MPH, dance facilitator and qigong instructor, began her journey in the health and healing arts while recovering from a chronic illness in 1995. Stemming from her personal healing experience with Traditional Chinese Medicine, she went on to learn the Chinese language, study medical anthropology, Tai Chi, Chi Nei Tsang (internal organ massage), and Wild Goose qigong. For over ten years, she has also studied and practiced mindfulness and Buddhist meditation, in both the vipassana and Thich Nhat Hanh traditions. After graduating from UC Berkeley with a Masters in Public Health, in 2005 she met and became a student of Qigong Master Xu Mingtang at Shaolin Monastery in China and traveled with him as his assistant during his seminars, retreats, and healings in Hungary, Germany, Switzerland, and Slovakia in the fall of 2005. She loves the qigong practice and the international qigong community, and is currently teaching Level 1 qigong classes in Seattle.

Karen has also been a lover of dance throughout her life. Dance is her body, spirit, soul and heart’s purest expression of Joy. She has studied ballet and jazz, African dance, 5 Rhythms, and contact improvisation and free-form, ecstatic dance is her passion. Currently, through teaching and group facilitation, Karen combines her love of qigong and dance to guide and inspire other to live their Joy and let their Light shine to the fullest.

Naming The Woman Within

How do you integrate body, mind, and spirit through words that resonate with who you are in the universe?  And how do you give form to the Emerging Design of Your Life, such that who you are is made larger than who you know yourself to be?

Today we'll explore how language gives form and power to that which you feel or know about your body, mind, and spirit, but which may remain unnamed and not fully seen.  We will write from the still, quiet corners of the heart, listen and record the whispers of the spirit, and name the passions that give birth to our life purpose.

Writing exercises, diads, and triads will assist us in naming the woman within so that she emerges to step powerfully into her life path.  Please bring writing materials.

Carmen Carrión's roots are in Puerto Rico and her island heritage informs her work, which encompasses poetry, short stories, feature articles, plays, and screenplays.  She's been a featured writer at numerous events in the Northwest, including the Ford Foundation Diversity Conference, Bumbershoot, Mira! Latino Film & Video Festival, SIFF, and the A Latino National Conversation.  Her writing has been produced and widely published in various publications, including CALYX literary journal, and the anthology A Taste of La Lengua.
