SPECIAL EVENTS

Sunday Nov. 6th, 2:30 - 5:00 PM

Workshop with Holly Near

Demystifying Activism:
Conscientious participation as a way of life

Often we think that activism means leaving one's life and hitting the streets. That is one way. What about every day activism for people who have jobs, families, service organizations? What about activism for artists and teachers, lawyers and clergy, parents and sweet hearts? Holly Near helps us identify the small essential ways in which we can rise up to combat the highly successful attack that is being directed at our souls, our intelligence, our morality and our well being.

Ruth BarrettSaturday Nov. 5th and Sunday Nov. 6th, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
(Participants will be joining Holly Near's workshop on Sunday
from 2:30 - 5:00 PM as part of Ruth's workshop.)

Two-Day Workshop with Ruth Barrett:

Women’s Rites:
Creating Personal and Group Ritual

Ruth will focus on teaching how to think like a ritualist to create powerful and meaningful personal rituals for themselves and others, and for group rituals, from small intimate groups to large public gatherings and celebrations.  Using a clearly developed step-by-step process, participants will learn components of effective ritual design that includes developing the purpose, theme, energetics, and appropriate structure. participants will also learn how to constructively evaluate a ritual experience in order to constantly improve them. As the process of creating a personal ritual is de-constructed, participants will work with at least one personal life cycle event and develop it for the workshop's duration. This workshop will provide participants with the insights, tools and guidelines to challenge, risk, and learn to trust themselves in creating meaningful rituals for themselves and others. For group rituals participants will learn skills for facilitating a group experience, the differences in creating and preparing for small and large group rituals and tips on how to deal with possible problems that can arise.

(Participants will be joining Holly Near's workshop on Sunday from 2:30 - 5:00 PM as part of Ruth's workshop.)

Ruth Barrett is an ordained Dianic high priestess, ritualist, educator and award winning recording artist of original Goddess songs. Since 1980, Ruth has facilitated and taught ritual arts at festivals and conferences in the US, Canada, and Great Britain, and taught women's ritual-making for two decades through the Los Angeles Dianic community of the Circle of Aradia before locating to the Midwest. She is the author of Women's Rites, Women's Ritual: Creating Ritual in Dianic Wiccan Tradition, published by Authorhouse, 2004.
